Remember my sweet friend Dena from @thehousewifesnails who sent me a package last week? Well, besides the BST dupe, she also sent me her “DIY Gel” polishes. She’s pretty much a nail master so I couldn’t wait to try it out! She was kind enough to let me share her secret with my readers!
What you’ll need:
- Base Coat (I use Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails)
- American Classics Gelous
- Color of your choice (Revlon: Naughty)
- Sally Hansen Dries Instantly Top Coat
- Start with your base coat. Dena sometimes uses OPI’s Nail Envy
- One coat of Gelous–wait to dry
- One coat of color– wait to dry
- One coat of Gelous– wait to dry
- One coat of color–wait to dry
- One coat of Gelous– wait to dry
- Top with Sally Hansen Dries Instantly (I’ve also done this with Seche Vite)
If you love nail polish, I highly recommend following Dena’s account! You’ll be so inspired!
I have all this stuff, so when I have time I'm trying this for sure!
I totally thought of you the other day when I picked up one of the new Sinful colors. Now I just need the time to sit down and actually paint my nails! That mani looks amazing I may need to add a few of those to my next shopping list!
I LOVE the color! I find it so hard to wait for my nails to try but you make the application sound so easy (and quick!) xo
Sweet! Those look great after 4 days of wear!
Ok, so that color is awesome and perfect for fall. I really need to hop on this gel nails bandwagon. I'm so into nail art but haven't tried this yet!

Love that color, so pretty! Your manicure looks great too of course. I hope that you are having a great day so far too!
Well you know how I feel about your nails – absolutely love them!! I love the DIY tip!!
I might need to do this! I love the look!
I was at Walgreens the other day and saw all the Sally Hansen Gel stuff that you talked about last week and I was like awwww Joey 🙂 I am totally going to pick up some of those too!
How cool! I LOVE gel nails. I have an at-home kit for gel polish, and I'm obesessed to say the least. I have tried (a different) DIY gel hack that worked pretty well also. I've used normal nail polish, and covered it with the gelish top coat "top it off" and cured it under the UV lamp. The only disadvantage to this hack is that you still need the lamp, but I already owned it so it worked out.
Time consuming or not, look how great those are! You'd be spending that time repainting your nails anyhow! I hate when they chip. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯
I went and got a gel manicure today…. I just can't do it myself. You nails look great, and I love that color! Very pretty!
After reading about your experiences with the Sally Hansen gel polish, I bought some this last weekend. I'm 4 days in and it still looks great!
Oh excited to read this. I have tried the Revlon set, and I like the top coat but not the color polish so much. As a nail biter, anything that makes polish last longer is a win! 🙂
